Teddy Roosevelt Island

Dedicated to the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt Island is located on the Potomac River. The island is not accessible by cars or bicycles, and can only be reached by crossing a footbridge near the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The island itself, is home to a memorial designed by Eric Gugler. The memorial is composed of four large monolith stones engraved with famous quotations by President Roosevelt. It also features a 17-footsculpture of Theodore Roosevelt by sculptor Paul Manship (see image).

Fun Fact About President Theodore ("Teddy") Roosevelt:

Did you know that the term "Teddy Bear" was coined in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt? That's right. During a hunting trip in 1902, Roosevelt refused to kill a Black Bear simply for the sake of killing. From the point forward, Theodore Roosevelt was closely tied to images of Bears and Bear Cubs. The next time yousqueeze your favorite stuffed Teddy Bear goodnight, remember that you owe the popularity of your cuddly companion to the 26th President of the United States.

"...We both had a fantastic time and thought that it was great value for money. Robert was an exceptional guide, combining both his vast local knowledge and history of the areas we visited along with his obvious great love and enthusiasm for the city."

Mike from Albany, NY said:

"My family and I went on your 3:00 pm tour on Monday. We had a great time and wanted to pass along positive feedback on Robert. He is a very knowledgeable, thoughtful person, and carried himself in a way that would make any company proud. I would recommend that you that you make sure you retain an employee like that. There are many "entertainers" out there in the tour business, but not many sincere real people."
