Known as one of the largest libraries in the world the Library of Congress has 29 million catalogued books and other printed materials in 470 languages. Established on April 24, 1800 the library has the largest rare book collection in North America, including a Gutenburg Bible, along with 1 million issues of world newspapers dating back 3 centuries and 6,000 comic books. The Library of Congress is open to the general public for tours and academic research to those who are issued a "Readers Identification Card".
