This private university is one of the oldest Roman Catholic and Jesuit Universities in the United States. It was founded on January 23, 1789 by Archbishop John Carroll. Georgetown is well known for its strength in Academic programs. There are 48 majors that Georgetown offers in the 4 undergraduate schools as well as an option for students to design their own personal course of study. As of 2005-2006 the university has 6,719 full-time and part-time undergraduate students and 4,193 graduate students. Some notable Georgetown Alumni include former President Clinton along with many other heads of prestigious organizations including the CIA, NFL, and IRS.
