Originally a church building in 1833, the Ford Theater was taken over and renovated by John T. Ford in 1861. The theater is well known as the site of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865 by well known actor John Wilkes Booth. Across from the Ford Theater is the Peterson House where President Lincoln was taken and later died. The theater is still an active theater and historical site in remembrance of the 16th President Abraham Lincoln.
