In 1908 the FBI was headquartered in the Department of Justice building. It wasn't until April of 1962 that Congress approved construction of the new headquarters for the FBI. The building is also known as the J. Edgar Hoover Building with the name being authorized by President Nixon May 4, 1972. The building was officially opened in 1974 with the remaining employees completing the move in 1977. The FBI building is not open to the public since tours were discontinued in 1999.
