The Capital is the home of Congress, the legislative Branch of the United States Federal Government. It sits atop Capital Hill at the East end of the National Mall. The building was designed by Dr. William Thorton with the central dome above the rotunda and two wings for each chamber of Congress. The North Wing houses the Senate while the South Wing is home to the House of Representatives. The Capital Building hosts many major events over time, for instance every July 4th people gather on Capital Hill to celebrate Independence Day. Presidential Inaugurations take place here also along with Americans lying in state such as Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. One of the most recent Americans lying in Honor include Rosa Parks. The current building is the 4th to serve to as the United States Capital after Maryland State House, Federal Hall, and Congress Hall.
